Orange Agent of Death

file1111300292099 (1)

Agent Orange, you got to be kidding me. Really??? Agent Orange or Herbicide Orange (HO) is a wicked herbicide and defoliant (causes the leaves to fall off) that was used as part of America’s herbicidal warfare program. Guess who makes the stuff? You guessed it right if you said Monsanto. Monsanto had some help later from Dow chemicals. What a collaboration, huh? “The former Monsanto Company was one of nine wartime government contractors who made military herbicides.” Agent Orange got its name from the color of the orange-striped barrels it was shipped in.

Simulation of HO barrel

What in the world is wrong with these people.??? Haven’t they heard of Vietnam and the health problems that resulted from Us spraying our own with this poison? Its use resulted in over 400,000 Vietnamese deaths and 500,000 birth defects.

Is this more denial, as they’ve done with Genetically Engineered foods and their obvious heath risks? And now you want to put this into the seeds and spray it on our food??? The Glyphosate in Round Up wasn’t enough? Agent Orange poison is currently used to control weeds in cereal grains and lawns. So we are already being exposed to it, and they want to do more? Agent Orange crops?file0001874342697

2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), its  chemical, name was introduced in 1946. Where are the “regulators” charged with the protection of public health and our environment. Regulators??? The EPA rejects the idea that Agent Orange is a threat. The USDA is more like a salesman for Dow, than a regulator for the people’s health and welfare.

Another component of Agent Orange is 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T), which in 1969, was revealed to have been contaminated with a dioxin.  This dioxin  2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzodioxin (TCDD)  was created unintentionally during manufacturing– thanks Monsanto. And it was known at that time to cause serious adverse health effects.  It was considered “perhaps the most toxic molecule ever synthesized by man.”

file000548050271A review done back in 1979 revealed that even “vanishingly small” quantities of dioxin in the diet caused some serious health effects when tested on animals. The National Toxicology Program has classified this stuff as a “known carcinogen,” causing lymphoma-type cancers. Dioxin is toxic over several years. It is not water-soluble and it doesn’t degrade easily.

Monsanto says it is now an independent agriculture company, no longer the wartime government contractor. But its chemicals are the same ones employed as in wartime. This time, however, it’s all in the name of killing weeds. Sadly, that’s not all that will be affected if Monsanto and Dow (the new Monsanto) are allowed to have their way.

main GM crop: soybean

soybean

New GE soybean and corn seeds called “Enlist” were already approved in Canada this year, the US is prepped and ready to join in. The corn and soy will be genetically engineered to be resistant to the herbicide. The “Enlist Weed Control System” needs to combine 2,4-D and Glyphosate to combat weeds that are now resistant to glyphosate alone. And this will go on, and on, and on. Dow AgroScience says its safe though, we should be fine, no real threat. Why do we need their new crops, what’s wrong with the old ones???

What the ham and eggs???14 GMOs

“Aside from its harmful endocrine and carcinogenic effects, 2,4-D is a very volatile herbicide, which can easily drift onto nearby crops, vegetables and flowers. In fact, a comparative risk assessment found that 2,4-D was 400 times more likely to cause non-target plant injury than glyphosate (also known as Roundup, the herbicide many currently used GE crops are engineered to survive.)” (source)

Should Enlist crops win ultimate authorization, the USDA said that would increase the annual use of 2,4-D  in the United States from 26 million pounds per year to possibly 176 million pounds. Drift and runoff are a serious risk potentially harming  our environment, plants and animals. DSCN9338

“Scientists, human and environmental health  advocates, farming organizations, and food  transparency groups have urged government  regulators to think twice about unleashing  more 2,4-D.”http://rt.com/usa/156272-epa-dow-agent-orange-herbicide/

“In 2012, seventy health scientists sent a letter to the EPA asking it to block approval of Dow’s 2,4-D-resistant corn and soybeans forfile0001700445160 commercial sale.”

The toxicity of these chemicals is well-known. Studies have been conducted for many years and as usual our government turns a blind eye to the truth. Our veterans are the perfect example of what exposure to Agent Orange can do. But those with the power to make change don’t believe the many complications our soldiers are experiencing came from that exposure.

Their illnesses are also documented and known. They have a range of afflictions: rashes and other skin irritations, miscarriages, psychological disorders, Type-2 diabetes, birth defects in children, and cancers; prostate, leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, just to name a few. In the same way, they see nothing wrong with GE foods or the health effects now showing themselves to be related to their consumption.

Can’t we just ban GMO’s altogether??? It probably would take a life time to accomplish that one. 😦 But we can fight back. Boycott, Boycott, Boycott. We can hit them where it hurts; in their pockets…Don’t buy meat from factory farms. You know that GE corn and soy are their diet, it will be in you, too. Tell the USDA, to keep Agent Orange corn off Your Plate!

Before I go, I’d like to share an interesting video with Michael Meacher, former UK Environment Minister, speaking on the risks associated with the technology of genetic modification …   http://on.aol.com/video/michael-meacher-on-the-problems-of-genetic-modification-516926307

Also, check out the Pesticide Action Network and the USDA info on green-lighting the use of Agent orange:  http://www.panna.org/media-center/press-release/usda-genetically-engineered-corn-opposed-by-farmers-scientists-public-interest

This stuff is dangerous. Agent Orange causes severe illness to those exposed to it and to the offspring of those exposed. It has been known to cause cancer in farmers that use it. The EPA/USDA/FDA, all must be made to listen to the voice of the people. Future generations depend on our action NOW. Let’s make some noise about it…

As always, I share because I care. Let me hear from you. Like my page, leave a comment, let me know you’re there…

Can You Afford to Eat Organic?

Shop local farmers market, Eat organic if you can.

Shop local farmers markets

I say you can’t afford Not to. However, to answer the question, you can afford to eat organic, even on a budget. One option that is always affordable is your local farmers markets. There you have a choice of local and organic. And to be honest, I find that in most cases the prices are lower or equal to the local chain grocery stores.

I know that eating organic sounds like a luxury to most. And I know it’s not the norm, and we do hate change. But I think it’s really important to be open to this change because your life depends on it. Even the medical community is realizing that we are at risk from the pesticides and additives that are found in our food today.

This is from Prevention News “…organizations from the American Academy of Pediatrics to the President’s Cancer Panel encourage us to reduce our exposure to everything from pesticides to artificial growth hormones, the fact is that we should all be able to feed our families foods that are free-from additives that are increasingly being shown to cause harm.”

Most stores today are adding some type of organic line of food, whether it’s their own brand or those that are stamped “USDA Organic.” You can also save money by becoming a member of a local farm. I guess you may ask, where am I going to find a local farm? I’m glad you asked. 🙂

The Organic Consumers Association  http://organicconsumers.org/btc/BuyingGuide.cfm  is probably one of the best sources for everything organic and sustainable. They have a Green People directory of green and organic businesses by zip code.  They also have an organic buying club, The Green Polka Dot Box, offering organic and Non GMO foods. http://www.greenpolkadotbox.com/

Eat Well Guide is an excellent resource for local, sustainable and organic food. Just type in your zip code and you get a listing for farms or markets near you. http://www.eatwellguide.org/i.php?pd=Home

Local Harvest is another excellent resource that will connect you to farms and farmers markets in your area. http://www.localharvest.org/

Become a member of a CSA, that’s Community Supported Agriculture. This is really cool. You get to visit the farm at least once a season. You also can develop a relationship with the farmer and get insight on how your food is grown. Great for families with children.

Local Harvest can direct you to a local CSA. The farmer offers a certain number of “shares,” usually a box of  fruits and vegetables. You purchase a share, like a membership or subscription, and you receive a  box, bag or basket of seasonal produce. images

When we buy  direct from a family farm we are  actually helping the environment. Maybe we can  help change this horrible trend we see taking place with chemical agriculture and GMOs; the poisoning of our soil and water. We will also be strengthening our communities by sustaining the local economy.

There are community gardens, usually a donated piece of land to be used for gardening. This would allow for kids to also get involved in helping to provide nutritious food and a little exercise too.    info@communitygarden.org

Also check out Second Story gardens, safe_image  @www.facebook.com/SecondStoryGardens. This shows an example of community gardens utilizing the public school’s space for growing food.

There are many options to eating organic. You just have to find what works for you. And you know it’s really not a case of should you eat organic. The fact is, if you don’t, you and your family are at risk. GMOs are a real threat, pesticides and additives are too. You must avoid them.

Here are more reasons to eat organic:

GMO foods that are genetically engineering do not provide adequate nutrition and they cause harm.

Start growing your own.file401291227281 There are many options to this choice. But before you do, check out this amazing video, called “Back to Eden.”   http://www.backtoedenfilm.com/. Awesome!!!

I use a company called “Nature’s Garden Express.” I receive a box of organic fruits and vegetables of my choosing, every two weeks. I pay only $45 a box and it really lasts. Because I’m getting all the nutrition I need, I eat less and get filled quicker, its real food. It tastes better too.  https://www.naturesgardenexpress.com/invites.php

When I do shop, that  I find I save more money than I spend, even though organic may cost a little more. I save by passing by all that GMO, processed, pesticide filled food that’s on sale. I buy less, but I get more. More vitamins and nutrients, and more opportunities to be creative.  Try it!!!

Sharing is caring. I really care and I pray that we can start to eat our way to better health by saying No to GMO.

GMO’s…How Sick Are You???

You know, I find it surprising that there are many today that believe that GE foods are causing no harm. How they believe that is a mystery to me. I’m over 50, and I’ve been here long enough to measure what I see today against things of the past. We are, as a nation, sicker than we ever have been. How sick are you?

Next stop, if we don't stop...

Next stop, if we don’t stop…

Yes, there are genetic, and environmental reasons for some of what we see. But I believe that the greater percentage of the disease and sickness we see prevailing today is due to one common denominator. Genetically Engineered or Genetically Modified Organisms that’s in our food.

IMG_0118

eating this….

How sick are you???

It’s a two-fold question. How sick are you in body, your health??? And, how sick and tired are you of what’s going on with our food???

When Monsanto forced genes from bacteria, viruses, animals, and humans into the DNA of a food crop, something new and hideous was going to result. The desire to create cheaper food (as they say) has led to this practice of modifying and cloning, and they didn’t even consider the effects it would have on human health.

Check out this excerpt:

In an open letter “from world scientists to all governments concerning genetically modified organisms” it was expressed that “GM crops offer no benefits to farmers or consumers. Instead, many problems have been identified, including yield drag, increased herbicide use, erratic performance, and poor economic returns to farmers. GM crops also intensify corporate monopoly on food, which is driving family farmers to destitution, and preventing the essential shift to sustainable agriculture that can guarantee food security and health around the world.”

The letter states: “We urge the US Congress to reject GM crops as both hazardous and contrary to the interest of family farmers; and to support research and development of sustainable agricultural methods that can truly benefit family farmers all over the world. We, the undersigned scientists, call for the immediate suspension of all environmental releases of GM crops and products, both commercially and in open field trials, for at least 5 years; for patents on living processes, organisms, seeds, cell lines and genes to be revoked and banned; and for a comprehensive public inquiry into the future of agriculture and food security for all.” – See more at: http://www.occupycorporatism.com/study-gmo-crop-monopoly-causing-heart-disease-diabetes/#sthash.Q9XzRSLT.dpuf

Now, let’s see here. We have the scientific community standing  and expressing their concern about these Genetically Engineered or GM crops, and  they, the scientists, are calling for the rejection of GM crops. Their concern is, one for the farmer (as it should be, they are suffering in this, but, that’s a whole new blog); and secondly, they are concerned with its effects on the environment and the safety of humans and animals.

I’m concerned too! Are you???

People, there is cause for concern. These crops receive widespread application of herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers and other toxic chemicals. None of these are suited for human consumption. According to Charles Benbook, chief scientist, at the Organic Center in Oregon, using data from the USDA, “there has been an estimated increase in the use of pesticides for GMO crops of about 400 million pounds over the first 16 years of its commercial use.”file6781242268130

Read any pesticide label. You will find toxic substances that are known to have chronic health effects that can occur years after just minimal exposure. And we’re eating it!! Come on–this is not rocket science!  Pesticides are in our food, in our water; they’re in the air we breathe. Not only are we being poisoned with the pesticides, add to that, an increase in antibiotic resistant bacteria.

file9111259437320

There is evidence surfacing everyday to support the fact that our exposure to pesticides causes chronic health problems.

Here’s a good example. I’m sure everybody today has come in contact with a child that has ADHD,  you know, it’s the fancy name for–“I can’t sit still”or “I can’t pay attention.” Back in the day, my Grandma called it something else.Well– anyway; we all know one or two children that suffer with it. I have a few grandkids that suffer from ADHD. It appears to be on the rise. Guess what? Yep! You guessed it, pesticides in the food:

“…in May 2010, scientists from the University of Montreal and Harvard University released a study that found that exposure to pesticide residues on vegetables and fruit may double a child’s risk of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a condition that can cause inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity in children. ”     http://www.toxicsaction.org/problems-and-solutions/pesticides

Now, you just read that there  is a risk found from residues found on the fruits and vegetables. Now add to that, pesticides and herbicides found in the DNA of the fruits and vegetables. We and our children don’t stand a chance. And rather than change their diet, we give them toxic pharmaceuticals. How sick are you???

“Remnants “of pesticides have been found in the bloodstream of sufferers of certain types of cancer. The Facts About Organic Foods Having More Vitamins and Minerals Protects You From Chronic Disease claims that “women with breast cancer are five to nine times more likely to have pesticide residues in their blood than those who do not. The apparent link between hormone dependent cancers, such as those of the breast and prostate, may be via endocrine disrupting chemicals such as 2,4D and Atrazine (both herbicides).”  http://www.havahart.com/advice/animal-repelling/living-organic/why-organic-living/chemical-pesticides-effects

GMO and Disease

Residue in my boobs is not a happy thought. 😦 But it isn’t just pesticide residue we should be concerned about. Did you know that it’s said that 1 in 3 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime? Would you be surprised to know that in their little rat tests, exposing them to glyphosate in their food supply, the female rats developed massive tumors in their mammary glands?IMG_8031

Coincidence? I think not.

Endocrine disruption, what is it, what has that to do with GMO and disease? I’m glad you asked. 🙂 The endocrine system if made up glands throughout the body. They are your pituitary, adrenal, thyroid, the pancreas, and the ovaries or testicles. They secrete hormones into the bloodstream that affect many body functions like growth and development, metabolism (the production of energy), healthy weight, mood, and organ performance. These hormones work in very small doses. The endocrine system is disrupted with low dose exposure over a prolonged period of time with hormonally active chemicals like Glyphosate, the main chemical in Roundup.

Consider this point:

“Endocrine disruptors can lead to failure in all systems in the body that are controlled by hormones. Imbalances  and malfunctions of the endocrine system can lead to diabetes, kidney disease, hypertension, obesity, osteoporosis, Cushing’s syndrome, hypo- and hyperthyroidism, infertility, birth defects, erectile dysfunction, cancer (breast, prostate, liver, brain, thyroid, non-Hodgkin’s (lymphoma), sexual development problems, neurological disorders (learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, autism, dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, schizophrenia) among others. Endocrine disruptors are especially damaging to growth in fetuses, babies and children.” http://www.examiner.com/article/data-trends-show-correlation-between-increase-organ-disease-and-gmos file000480371600

I think that covers all the diseases we see prevailing in our country today. Monsanto’s glyphosate use is causing diseases in our organs. The increase of these diseases seem to be on track with the introduction of GE crops and the liberal use of glyphosate.

Check out these incidence rates against the amount of glyphosate used on GE crops soy and corn. Please remember these rates are up to 2010:

Percent of U.S. populaton who are obese (bmi >= 30.0) plotted against GE crop and glyphosate use data

http://www.examiner.com/slideshow/incidence-rates-of-thyroid-cancer-new-cases-reported-per-year-per-100-000#slide=5

Percent of U.S. populaton who have high blood pressure plotted against GE crop data

http://www.examiner.com/slideshow/incidence-rates-of-thyroid-cancer-new-cases-reported-per-year-per-100-000#slide=8

Adjusted incidence of diabetes (new cases reported per year in thousands) plotted against GE crop and glyphosate use data. Pre-1990 background has been subtracted.

http://www.examiner.com/slideshow/incidence-rates-of-thyroid-cancer-new-cases-reported-per-year-per-100-000#slide=12

I find these charts to be quite convincing evidence that glyphosate applied to the GE soy and corn has a direct correlation to the sickness in America. In each graph you can see that as the application increased so did the incidence and number of people who have the diseases. I’m not saying that this is the only cause, because we are bombarded with a vast array of chemicals that we come in contact with on a daily basis. However, this correlation is not just coincidence.

Contrary to popular belief, there are many scientific studies on glyphosate and the other chemicals in Roundup (we haven’t even talked about those yet), that prove their toxic effect to human cells. Here’s a short list, just to name a few:

In 2004, Marc et al. reported that glyphosate-based pesticides cause cell-cycle dysfunction that leads to development of cancer.
In 2009 Gasnier et al. published an article in the journal Toxicology citing evidence that glyphosate-based (G-based) herbicides are endocrine disruptors in human cells. They reported toxic effects to liver cells “at 5 ppm [parts per million], and the first endocrine disrupting actions at 0.5 ppm, which is 800 times lower than the level authorized in some food or feed (400 ppm, US EPA, 1998). … In conclusion, according to these data and the literature, G-based herbicides present DNA damages … on human cells.”
In 2012 Koller et al. reported that glyphosate and its formulation (Roundup) is toxic to cells, particularly organ cells, and exhibits DNA-damaging properties “after short exposure to concentrations that correspond to a 450-fold dilution of spraying used in agriculture.http://www.examiner.com/article/data-trends-show-correlation-between-increase-organ-disease-and-gmos 9

As I stated earlier, we live in a chemical bubble, coming in contact with myriads of thesefile3731308109680 poisons everyday. BPA, in our plastics, dioxins, from pesticides and herbicides; chlorine, fluoride, food preservatives, BHT, BHA; food additives, how about the old MSG-mono-sodium glutamate. and aspartame (a known carcinogenic); food coloring, Red #40, a nasty carmine beetle making your food and drink red; just to name a few.

file0001275057572

But I still feel that Monsanto, GMO foods, and glyphosate, took it to a whole new level.

“Death begins in the colon.”.file6931276848375

We are eating this poison everyday. The colon, our food processor, is being damaged by this. Our slow death is being processed right along with this poisonous food.

You really are what you eat. Please think on these things I’ve said, and the evidences shown. Change is inevitable, why not make it a change for the better. And yes, I know, change is hard. But I say, when something is hard, work hard at it. We can eat better, cleaner, safer, with a little change. Wake up and pay attention, these Big Agricultural players care nothing about us. They will keep doing what they’re doing until we, the people, united, stand up and say, STOP!!! No More GMO!!! That is my mission….

Killing Me Softly….with my food.

file7101237575173

Where do I begin. I have begun to be very concerned with the safety of the food in this country. Un-labeled genetically modified ingredients are prevalent in our food. No adequate safety testing has been done on this food. It is more than probable that this is one of the reasons for the increase in allergies, asthma, heart disease, and cancer.

In 2011, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Needless to say my journey was about to begin. I was told I needed immediate surgery, although my cancer was stage 0, they called it Ductal Carcinoma In-Situ. Scared me for sure. I was determined not to have this surgery, so I began my own research. Here is where my introduction to GMO and chemicals as well as pesticides began. I found to my amazement a large quantity of chemicals and pesticides were being used on our food that were carcinogenic. So my first order of business was to change the way I was eating. No more chemicals and pesticides. I started eating organics foods, or locally grown by small farmers. The mass production of food is where the problem lies, we must fear the big producers.

Then I read about Genetically Modified Organisms in my food. My last post gave you an overview of the process. Monsanto was a name that continued to pop up. Monsanto is a chemical company that is now the world’s largest seed corporation. Monsanto’s products cause death. There is definite link to Monsanto’s GMO crops and cancer tumors.Read more at  http://www.naturalnews.com/037249_GMO_study_cancer_tumors_organ_damage.html

What is genetically engineered in the US?

Right now soy, corn, cotton, and canola are the big four. Soy and Corn derivatives are in most processed foods. If it comes in a box from the supermarket, it is probably genetically engineered. All four are used in vegetable oil.*

file9421273408476

This is a no-no…

In order to avoid eating GMOs, you must: 1. Buy organic, which is not allowed to use GM inputs   2. Buy products that are labeled Non-GMO   3. Buy products listed on a Non-GMO Shopping Guide, or   4. Read labels and avoid the at risk ingredients, such as soy protein isolate, lecithin, high fructose corn syrup, dextrose, maltodextrin, and all corn derivatives, canola and cottonseed oil, etc.*

*Visit www.ResponsibleTechnology.org to find more information on how to avoid GM foods, as well as a shopping guide.

In May 2009, the American Academy of Environmental Medicine released a policy paper urging all doctors to prescribe non-GMO diets for everyone, stating that animal studies show that GM food is linked to infertility, immune problems, accelerated aging, organ damage, and gastrointestinal problems. They called for a moratorium on GMOs, and mandatory labeling.

The fight for labeling is ongoing and hard. We need to make our voices heard in Congress, and say no to GMO and if not, please at least label it so we have a true choice. I’m ready to fight…are you?
